A Toast to Obama
Popped open a bottle of Egly-Ouriet "Les Vignes de Vringy" Premier Cru last night - pretty good, but not as crisp as I had hoped for. Maybe I had a bit too much alcohol by that point. Yay, go Obama!

but I grew up with an acute feeling of being a minority in this country. And tonight was really special. I know a lot of people celebrated Obama's win, but do white people really know how significant this is for non-white Americans? It is fucking huge. I finally feel like I can say that I am American (no need for that hypenated shit) without aspiring or pretending to be anything white. Awesome.
I read up on some articles about biking in cold weather and decided to put some of the tips into practice. The key, I read, was to avoid wearing cotton (since it traps sweat and makes you feel clammy) and to cover extremities very well.
Below is everything that I wore to ride in low-forties weather (except my boxers).
Helmet, thick gloves, headband, North Face fleece-lined nylon jacket, Nike All Condition Gear Fit Therma pullover, Nike DryFit pants, Nike DryFit socks, and long-sleeved Under Armour. I rode about three miles and definitely felt less wet when I got sweaty. I felt very warm while feeling light, and could probably have handled temperatures at least five degrees lower. I think I will try this out as a my commute gear next week.
Had a great weekend. My buddy Wally came up and we had magnificent food, singing, and outdoors. On Sunday, while Reggie and Wally went for a run, my buddy Andy (pictured) and I took Chocolate around Prospect Park. We must have tired Chocolate out because he was asleep all day yesterday.
Finally rode over the Williamsburg Bridge yesterday. I think it's definitely longer than the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges. Wook and I changed things up and worked the first half of the day at Atlas Cafe in Williamsburg, had lunch at Egg (meh), and rode back to the office.
Been trying to eat more at home these days. Thankfully Kitty consistently makes tasty meals. On Saturday, picked up a $11 Shiraz- Grenache-Barbera blend called First Love. Very easy to drink but nothing special. Got a $20 white burgundy last night to go with our shrimp dish last night. Absolute delight - crisp, fruity, not sweet at all, yet smoother at the end than a sauv blanc. Will get it again.
